Family Update

Quick Update:

On Friday, January 15th we converted Caden's crib into a big boy bed. He has been doing great. He struggled a little the first week because he was falling out, but now he has figured it out. He likes to get out of bed at least once at nap time and bed time. I think he likes for us to wrap him up and make him 'cozy'. He is still taking a 2-3 hour nap each day and normally wakes between 7:30 and 8:30 AM. I have been trying to get him to bed by 9 PM, but it seems as though 9:30-10 PM is more of the norm.

We went to the doctor in late January for our ultrasound. We decided to take Caden with us. He was so excited to see baby sister. When we were in the ultrasound room, he heard a little girl crying in the other room. He looked at us and said, "That's baby sister, her she comes". We had to explain that baby sister is still in mommy's tummy and she won't be here for a little while. He was really excited to hear her heartbeat. The nurse was so nice, she let him hear it 2-3 times. He got a really big smile on his face each time.

The ultrasound went very well and the baby is growing! She is between 5-6 inches long and weighs 1 lb at 21 weeks. I have gained 8 lbs so far and have another 10 lbs to go. At 23 weeks she is extremely active. It feels like she is doing summersaults. She loves to move when I am at meetings at work or when I am laying in bed at night. You kind of forget how neat it feels to have a little person in your tummy. I already love this little girl and we can't wait for her to be delivered!

This week Caden turned 2 1/2. Up to this point, he has been a pretty pleasant little boy. A few weeks ago something switched in his little brain, which must have given him a burst of energy and attitude. He is struggling with listening to mom and dad and is getting quite the little personality. Most of the time when we should send him to time-out we have to walk out of the room and giggle first. He is very active and is constantly running through the house giggling - it is a really sweet sound! He likes to be defiant and say 'NO' often, especially at dinner and bed time.

Some of Caden's Favorite Things to Say:
  • How's the day going guys? He is sincerely interested and waits for a reply.
  • Oh, that was good - He normally says this when he falls down or drops something.
  • It's six o'clock - Anytime Dad and I ask each other what time it is, he looks at this arm and then replies.
  • It's three inches - He has been working in the basement with Dad. He loves playing with tools and measuring things.
Some other cute things Caden has said recently:
  • Hey Mister - When Dad put him in time-out
  • I'm glad your home with me today - He said this one Monday when I was home from work.
  • No, I'm in my kennel - Caden's response when I asked him to get in the bath
  • I go find my cell phone and have a call to Grandpa Bill - At the dinner table when he did not want to eat.
Caden still loves to play with cars, color/paint, wrestle with daddy, watch movies and read books. He knows quite a few nursery rhymes:
  • Girls and Boys Come Out to Play
  • Greedy Nan
  • Old King Cole
  • Black Sheep
  • Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
  • Pat-a-Cake
  • Humpty Dumpty
At this point our family is doing great and I couldn't ask for anything more. I am so grateful for my family.

I can't believe they are growing so fast. I just hate that they do that. This was a fun post to read!
